What does the Academy+ Pass Offer?

For an annual rate of $399 per child, the Academy+ Pass offers a range of special benefits and discounts for your child at the Academy at MoCA Westport:

• 20% discount on ALL children’s classes and camps
• ‘Priority Waitlist Upgrade' to be moved to the front of the line on our waiting lists  for classes/ camps that fill up quickly
• A complimentary guest voucher to bring a friend or family member who would like to experience a class at the Academy for the first time

*An Academy+ Pass is valid for one year and must be purchased for each individual child. Please allow 1-2 business days to receive email confirmation of your child’s enrollment. This email will also include your child's personal Academy+ Pass ID -for use during registration to receive 20% off classes and camps.

Join us for an enriching after-school program with Ms. Sue! We blend literacy and music with artistic exploration to provide your child with a stimulating experience. Through various creative activities such as watercolor painting, collage making, textile art, and drawing, children will engage in imaginative pursuits that foster their artistic expression and literacy skills in a nurturing environment.

Thursdays from 5:45-7:15

Enjoy the sunset and spring weather at our plein air painting class. Stationed on the front lawn, set up your easel and paint from life or follow along with the instructor to complete a guided painting. 

Fridays from 6:30p-8p for middle school - high school students at all artistic levels.

Looking for a fun and creative way to spend your Friday night? Join us at MoCA for a fun filled paint night where you will spend the evening painting, socializing, and getting creative! This class is available for middle school through high school students. 

Offered on select Sundays from 1-2 PM for up to 1 hour for children ages 3-7 (must be potty trained).

Register your child for an hour of Academy Art Studio time while you enjoy our exhibition. Parents must sign in, stay on-site, and provide a cell phone number so we may contact you during this time.

Embrace the blues and get ready to dive into the exciting world of natural dyeing with indigo! We’ll spend our workshop learning about indigo dyeing and exploring shibori techniques to create patterns on a silk scarf. It will make the perfect gift for Mother's Day!

 INSTRUCTOR: Fiber artist Laura Berkowitz Gilbert/Tocco Studio

HISTORY: We begin with a brief history of indigo and discuss the various indigo growing regions across the world. Laura will focus on Japan and share her experience meeting with seventh-generation indigo farmers, dyers and designers in Tokushima on the island of Shikoku.  

USING AN INDIGO VAT: We will discuss plant-based indigo as a dye, how it differs from other natural dyes and synthetic indigo, and practically, how dyers get the indigo to adhere to the fiber. We explore why the fabric is green when it is pulled out of the vat and then slowly turns blue. 

SHIBORI: We’ll learn the resist dye technique called shibori and how it works with indigo. Laura will show us several types of shibori bindings and how to maintain a healthy vat while dyeing. Then we will spend the remainder of the class dipping our silk scarf into the vat multiple times to achieve rich color and pattern. Laura will provide finishing and care instructions to implement at home.

 In this workshop, we’ll unveil the secrets of bundle dyeing, a technique that harnesses the power of steam to infuse plant-based color onto fibers. Not only does this method yield stunning results, but It has an added ecological benefit of using less water than a typical dyebath.

 You’ll use a variety of flowers and extracts to create a unique botanical pattern on a lightweight cotton tote bag - that will be your go-to this summer!
